![]() It seems most of these early serial ones no longer exist. Like the Remington 513 "MatchMaster"īut the roll marks on that scope are legit, and that early of a serial number is very rare. Just like how everything back then had a nickname. They call it the "Unertl SNIPER" scope.īasically the way they talk about it, the scope sounds like it was called the See in the Marine docs leading up to the Contract, and even in the Van Orden and Lloyd Sniper report of 1941. The "Sniper" name on the scope is probably actually the name of the scope. But I have no documentation to back that up. I've talked to several Marines back from that time period who said some were reconditioned by the Unertl company post Korea. This scope would have started as a 8X and later on changed to a different magnification either in house by the Marines, possibly reconditioned by Unertl, or maybe swapped while in the Civilian World. So they had a huge surplus of scopes at the end of WWII. The Marines purchased 1750 of these scopes, and didnt have a lot of 1903A1 rifles to put them on. But the scopes were retained by the Marines and used long after the rifles were discarded.Įven at the end of WWII the Marines were putting the 8X Unertls on the Remington 513t's and sending them to units for training purposes. Especially after the 1903A1 rifles were declared obsolete in 1951/52. ![]() The Marines used a lot of these scopes on smallbore rifles. He is correct that it looks right except for the power disc, eyepiece, and the addition of the spring. The scope is legit as USMC 0331 said earlier. ![]()
